This morning, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry joined me for breakfast with a text greeting that read ‘Let us follow the path of truth and non-violence shown by Mahatma Gandhi – Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.’ Profound, I thought aloud to my roomie with certain sarcasm, considering my opinion of such spamish, fake, farcical wishes that preach for one glorious day and promptly make it to virtual trash bins the very next, cloning themselves into many inboxes in the meantime.
I’m wondering if the wish made it to VIP cellphones that pay themselves off people’s taxes, big babus living in big bungalows built on big scams, the members of the unbelievably in-denial Nanavati Commission, and the I&B officials themselves, whose penchant for censoring the truth will always remain inexplicable, RTI et al. Also, did any authority dare to wield the power of the pen (or keyboard or SMS) to send a befitting reply to Indian Mujahiddeen as the email ID flashed across TV screens minutes after the ghastly blasts shook the city; or, did any self-led Gandhian saint extend a note of friendship or peace to the blinded wrongdoers? If only this message could make it deep into gray cells instead of hi-tech ones, things would be so much better!
